In Jesus Christ was life; and that life was the light for everyone. – John 1:4

No one is holy like the LORD

No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the LORD is the God of knowledge; And by Him, actions are weighed. - 1 Sam 2:2-3

Hannah, the mother of Samuel, was celebrating the salvation of the LORD here. This passage was part of Hannah’s prayer when she brought Samuel to the house of the LORD in Shiloh. The baby boy, Samuel, was weaned out and was brought to serve in the tabernacle of the LORD. This child was given to Hannah by our LORD in response to Hannah pouring out her soul to the LORD in prayer (1 Sam 1:15). Hannah is now giving away this child to the LORD’s service as she wowed in the presence of God (1 Sam 1:11).

The salvation of the LORD includes many different types of deliverance from the oppression we face in our sinful and cursed lives. One such curse was Hannah’s barrenness. It is no different from the many hopeless situations we face in our own lives. No matter how much we try to manage it through our effort, only our loving and almighty LORD Jesus Christ provides us with perfect deliverance. How do we receive this deliverance? We receive it by pouring out our soul in the presence of the LORD and entirely giving away the fruits of His salvation to His service. Hannah’s life is an apt example for us to follow.

So instead of Hannah celebrating the salvation of the LORD, why is she talking about the LORD being holy and telling us not to be arrogant? What does holiness mean? It means something that is pure and separated (purified and sanctified). Our LORD God is holy and he expects us to be holy. When the LORD God talks about the priests He says like this:

Therefore you shall consecrate him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I the LORD, who sanctify you, am holy. - Levi 21:8

It means we ought to be holy with our dealings with the LORD. Hannah realized that after experiencing the LORD’s work in her life. Her prayer, vow, and fulfillment of that vow were pursued with the heart of holiness. How can we have similar holiness, so that the LORD’s work will be fulfilled in our lives and our family’s lives?

The bible says we are the holy vessels of God (1 Thes 4:7) similar to the vessels in the holy place in the tabernacle of God (Exo 25:29). These vessels are made of pure gold which means we should have pure faith (1 Pet 1:7). These vessels need to be purified with water (Num 31:23) which means our faith should be based on the pure word of God (Eph 5:26). These vessels need to be sanctified by the blood, which means we need to identify ourselves to the sacrifice, death, burial and resurrection of the LORD (Heb 9:14, Rom 6:5). These vessels need to be sanctified by annointing oil (Exo 40:9) , which means we should be fully immersed in the holy spirit. Then these vessels need to be separated for God’s work and that is when these vessels will be used by God. For there is no one holy like our LORD. Amen!
