Here I am writing a commentary on the Bible. It contains the original Hebrew or Greek text followed by translated texts. We are going to study the Bible verse by verse since it is an important book that helps us live with God for eternity. The Bible was originally written in the Hebrew and Greek languages by many authors over more than 2000 years. These authors were mere men of God, and they wrote it when the Holy Spirit moved them.
...knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21 NKJV)
When it says men of God, do not think they were flawless. They were flawed human beings, but they wrote the truth without any exaggeration when the Holy Spirit moved them. They also wrote about their sins and flaws without hiding them. They wrote it as a testimony for us to learn and correct our own lives. Therefore, the only purpose of reading the Bible is to know about God’s righteousness and change our ways -to repent from our sinful ways and then do the will of God.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV)
Now let us come back to Genesis 1:1. Adam himself should have narrated this part of the Bible since nobody was there to see how God created everything. God should have told Adam in one of God’s morning meetings with Adam and his wife Eve in the garden of Eden.
And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" (Genesis 3:8-9 NKJV)
Sometimes I ask myself, why did God give this narrative with many scientific details missing about the creation of our universe? It is because it is narrated to somebody who trusted and believed in God, and it is in turn written for somebody who has faith in God. It is not written for people who do not believe in God. However, it is easy to prove the existence of God Scientifically. Scientifically, we know the basic elements of matter and energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. We also understand that the universe is expanding and losing usable energy. Therefore the argument that matter and energy existed eternally without God cannot work mathematically. If they existed forever, then all usable energy would have already been exhausted by now, and we would not be living on the earth. Therefore, the universe has a beginning and needs a Beginner who caused the beginning – the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient God.
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Hebrews 11:3)
So once we have established God created everything, we then ask which God? The Bible gives us a clear and unambiguous answer.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (Colossians 1:15-20 NKJV) God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (Hebrews 1:1-3 NKJV) Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11 NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:1-5 NKJV)
I can quote chapter and verse all day to prove that Jesus Christ is the creator of this universe, but what is the point? The point is that He who created everything and began everything also created you. He who created you also died on the cross to remove your sin and guilt. He who died for you also lives today to make sure you live. He who lives for you also promised you abundant life and peace that passes all understanding. He who lives for you also ascended to Heaven to end your life in glory with Him on the same throne where He sits along with His Father God. Can we ignore Him?
You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. (Psalm 139:15-16 MSG)
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7 NKJV)
A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. (John 14:19) I am the door.
If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:9-10 NKJV)
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27 NKJV)
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne (Revelation 3:21 NKJV)
Let us not ignore Jesus Christ, our LORD, and lose our precious lives for the whims and fancies of this world. Let us walk towards Him heavenward!
