I want to ask this question can there be a dark God? I mean a God who is unrighteous, impure, and full of hatred. If you see around the things He created we will realize that this is not a dark God. Even the little green grass expounds His righteousness. The beauty of all His creation whether it be this earth or the stars of this vast universe, it says our God is not small-hearted. If it is true that God created all this for us, then that should show how much He loves us. Well, there is still no evidence of life anywhere other than this earth –in this extraordinarily large universe. That makes me conclude, He created this vast expanse just for us to gaze at the amazing beauty of the night instead of thinking about the dangers of darkness. The universe proves the size of His love for me. Father, “How much do you love me?” “If you can count the galaxies my son or my daughter, that is how much I love you!”
The next thing I think about is this. There are so many atrocities that happened on this earth. There is so much that is still happening. How can a righteous God allow such atrocities to happen without any justice for the victims of such atrocities? Be it slavery, violence against the weak, poverty, or disease, where is this God? Why can’t He help? Then I realized, these atrocities were done by His own sons and daughters. Even if He is angry that his other sons and daughters were affected by that evil inflicted on them, He has slowed down by His extraordinary love for those men and women who did the evil deeds. He has this hope against hope that those evil men and women will realize their misdeeds and turn around from their evil ways. If we on this earth might seek our sons and daughters to get a second chance, why shouldn’t the heavenly Father think about it? That does not mean He. will spare them forever. He is slow but when the time comes He will judge and bestow judgment on those who took His grace for granted and never tried to change their ways.
But what about the victims of those atrocities? How can they be consoled? Well, He did something for them. He took His own Son – a part of Him; a part that cannot be separated from Him. He took His own Son, stripped Him off all His Son’s godly privileges, humiliated Him, and put Him on the cross naked. He let the Romans and Jews torture His Son unto death.
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds, we are healed.
Isaiah 53:4-5
So that should console us. He punished His first Son for the sake of His other sons and daughters. You look at the cross and you see another atrocity of human history, God did not shove human history under the carpet as we so often do. He took responsibility for it and paid the price. Therefore we should declare:
This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
John 1:5
If God is light and not dark, why do we constantly walk in fear? Why do we have this little corner of our heart that says God might just overlook my condition or plight? A God who threw billions of galaxies just for you to be entertained in the night – A God who let His own Son be tortured for your evil deeds. Will He overlook your plight? He surely will not. Therefore turn around and start walking in the light – The light of His grace and mercy – The light of His righteousness – The light of His love – The light of His Son Jesus Christ!
If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 6-7
